2008 ford focus review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Developed with microsoft, sync provides a hands-free link to cell phones and mp3 players through a series of voice commands. It can even read text messages to occupants through the stereo system. It's an amazing system and ford appears to be ahead of everyone else in this area.  the redesigned interior is aesthetically pleasing. It looks better than that of the outgoing model, with nicer graining on the plastics that continue to dominate the cockpit. The ambience is not luxurious but appropriate for the price. While interior noise is also down from the last model, there is still plenty of road and engine noise, which are typical of economy cars.  as in the past, the focus handles well. We experienced lots of road feel with little body lean in corners while driving the top-line ses with its a sportier suspension. That road feel can make the ride a bit harder than some might prefer, but it isn't harsh and we appreciated the handling response.  with 140 horsepower, the focus has decent power for most needs, but passing on a busy two-lane road will require a lot of space. Options for s include cruise control 215), sirius satellite radio 195), and a temporary spare tire 60).  the se coupe 15,075) and sedan 15,375) add power windows, locks and mirrors; remote keyless entry; vehicle message center; and aluminum alloy wheels. Leather upholstery 695) is optional, and the ses is available with the se options.  safety features that come standard consist of dual-stage front airbags; torso-protecting, seat-mounted front side airbags; head-protecting side curtain airbags; tire pressure monitor; and latch-style child seat anchors. The result is at best conservative and at worst awkward and dull.  the front end is dominated by a two-bar version of the three-bar, razor-like chrome grille that first appeared on the fusion. The grille is flanked by headlights that wrap around to the sides and follow the curve of the hood toward the windshield. A too-large expanse of bumper is located under the grille and below that is a large air intake that houses fog lights at the corners on the topline ses model.  the sides feature a chromed triangular applique at the back of each front fender that simply seems like tacked on ornamentation. This piece, which looks like an f on the driver's side, is the starting point for a pair of character lines that flow back. The bottom line leads to the rear wheelwheel, while the top line rises from front to rear and teams with a high tail to give the focus the appearance of at least some dynamic motion. The rear of the coupe's roofline stays almost as high as the sedan's, which makes it look a bit clunky. The car looks best from the rear, where the simple angular shapes seem to work.  the overall result is a look that seems like a poor attempt at a family design statement. interiorinside the ford focus is an aesthetically pleasing cockpit. The dashboard is dominated by a shiny plastic silver inset that covers the middle of the dash and leads into the center console. This is surrounded by black plastic top and bottom. There are no soft-touch materials here, but the graining looks nicer than it did in last year's model. The center console is deep, though not especially wide.  on top of the dash is a hooded cutout that displays trip computer, radio, and, when ordered, sync information. The instrument panel has two large gauges, the speedometer and tachometer, and two small gauges, the fuel gauge and water temperature gauge. Along the top are buttons for 10 radio station presets. When sync and sirius satellite radio are ordered, drivers can store up to 60 stations: 20 fm, 10 am and 30 sirius. An easy-to-use set of climate controls is located below the stereo and sync controls. None of these buttons are hard to identify or reach.  at the base of the center stack is a nice rubberized tray. This area is fairly important because it is where drivers will keep their phones and ipods when they use the sync system. We found sync to be genuinely useful and fairly easy to use. When an mp3 player is plugged in, sync charges it and has access to the complete playlist. The driver can tell sync to play a specific song, artist, or genre of music from his mp3 player. When a bluetooth-enabled phone is in the car and paired to the system, sync can access its phonebook. It can even play back incoming text messages through the speakers and allow the driver to respond with one of 15 predetermined messages, all while the driver keeps his hands on the wheel. There are a couple glitches, though. I couldn't get the system to recognize 'kirk.' instead it heard my name as 'curt,' which is another number in my cell phone. And in general, the system is a bit tricky to learn at first.  the front seats are comfortable, with plenty of head and leg room. Thanks to large mirrors and small rear pillars, the driver's seat affords a good view to all corners. The rear seat has decent room with shorter people up front, but leg room disappears as the seats are moved back for taller front seat occupants. Head room is decent in the sedan, but a bit lacking in the coupe.  the trunk is fairly large at 13. 8 cubic feet. That's as big as or bigger than some midsize cars. The second row seats fold mostly flat to allow loading long, flat packages. This focus, though different in appearance, is basically that same car, which means it still handles well.  we drove the 2008 focus ses and found a lot of road feel is communicated through the steering wheel. There is little lean in turns; after an initial shift, it takes a nice set. The ses model benefits from the addition of a rear stabilizer bar for sharper handling. We have not driven the base model.  good road feel means the ride quality is a bit harder than some might prefer. But the focus isn't a penalty box. With the manual transmission the focus gets an epa-rated 24/35 mpg city/highway. With the automatic, it gets a healthy 24/33mpg.  the 2. 0-liter is competitive with most engines in this class. It has decent power for most needs, but passing maneuvers will require plenty of space.

2012 ford expedition review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Refined and comfortable tow vehicle. introductionthe ford expedition full-size sport-utility seats up to eight people, hauls a mountain of gear, and can pull heavy trailers. With the optional towing package, the standard 4wd expedition is rated at 9,000 pounds, the 2wd at 9,200 pounds, the 2wd el at 8,900 pounds, and the 4wd el at 8,700 pounds.  inside are rich materials and generous space for passengers in all three seating rows. That's nice on long drives. With its combination of utility, a smooth, stable ride and a pleasant interior, the ford expedition is a fine choice for families that tow or take driving vacations.  the ford expedition comes in two lengths, the standard model with a 119-inch wheelbase, and the expedition el with its 131-inch wheelbase. Extended-length expedition el models add more cargo-carrying capacity, especially noticeable when trying to load groceries or gear behind the third-row seats.  expedition is powered by a single-overhead-cam 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 310 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment. Front park assist is now standard on limited and king ranch. Heated rear seats are now optional on xlt. And all versions come with standard spotter mirrors. The current-generation expedition was launched as a 2007 model. lineupthe 2012 ford expedition xl 36,305) and 4wd xl 39,205) come with cloth upholstery on front captain's chairs, second-row 40/20/40 split bench reclining fold-flat seat with centerslide, full-length overhead console, large floor console, power door locks, power windows, heated power mirrors with integrated spotter mirrors, carpeting, auto-dimming mirror, three power points, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, keyless entry, am/fm/cd/mp3 with audio input jack, fog lamps, luggage rack, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. A third-row 60/40 split bench seat that folds flat to the floor is optional 875).  the expedition el xl 39,830) and expedition el xl 4wd 42,730) are equipped basically the same, except that the third-row seat is standard, and the alloy wheels upgrade to 18 inches.  options include sync voice-activated communication and entertainment system 395), heavy-duty trailer towing 395), rear-seat entertainment 1,995), and remote start 345).  the expedition xlt 38,915) and xlt 4wd 41,815), expedition el xlt 41,625) and el xlt 4wd 44,525) add reverse-sensing system, sync, premium sound system, power-adjustable pedals, universal garage door opener, power rear quarter windows,18-inch alloy wheels, and a large selection of other trim and convenience features. Xlt options include a moonroof 995), power running boards 995), air suspension 485), leather 2,265), heated rear seats 395), and voice-activated navigation 2,105). The xlt is also available with three comprehensive packages with increasing levels of features, the 201a 4,425), 202a 5,610), and 203a 5,855).  expedition limited 45,045) and limited 4wd 47,945), limited el 47,695) and limited el 4wd 50,595) add heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, memory for driver's seat and exterior mirrors, rear-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, power liftgate, heated second row seats, powerfold third-row rear seat, leather, and a wide range of additional convenience and trim features. Limited decor group 301a 1,490) adds a moonroof and power running boards. Polished 20-inch alloy wheels 1,395) are also available.  expedition king ranch 46,555) and king ranch 4wd 49,455), king ranch el 49,205) and king ranch el 4wd 52,105) feature chaparral leather upholstery, king ranch badging, and gold exterior accents. The leather trims the center console lid, steering wheel and door panels, while wood trim can be found on the center console, shifter handle and instrument panel. There is also a king ranch decor group 401a 1,490), which adds navigation and power running boards. Painted 20-inch alloy wheels 1,195) are optional.  safety equipment includes front airbags, torso-protecting front side airbags, three-row head-protecting side-curtain airbags with rollover deployment, tire-pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes (abs) with brake assist, and advancetrac electronic stability control with roll stability control (rsc) and trailer sway control. A rear obstacle detection system is standard on xlt, limited, and king ranch. Forward-pointing parking sensors are standard on limited and king ranch. walkaroundthe ford expedition is a truck and it doesn't pretend to be anything else. This is a good identity to have, because ford trucks continue to have an outstanding reputation for utility, reliability and durability.  both the long and regular-length versions of the expedition use many of the components from the ford f-150 pickup. However, the expedition features independent rear suspension, which improves driving precision, ride comfort, and rear-seat roominess.  expedition features a three-bar grille, large headlights, and a domed hood that combine to deliver a look that's both distinctive and respectable. There are several different wheel designs, including 20-inchers with a polished (limited) or painted (king ranch) finish.  expedition rides on a wheelbase of 119. 0 inches, while the expedition el models stretch that to 131. 0 inches. Overall, the el measures 14. 8 inches longer than the standard expedition, and that adds slightly over 22 cubic feet of cargo volume, from 108. 3 cubic feet for the expedition to 130. 8 for the el.  the expedition and the expedition el are big vehicles, measuring more than 17 feet from nose to tail. As a result, crowded parking lots can be challenging. The expedition has a turning circle of nearly 41 feet, while the el requires nearly 44 feet.  they're also heavy, as even the base 2wd expedition weighs over 5,500 pounds, and a loaded el with 4wd tops 6,200.  the king ranch model can be identified by its gold exterior accents and unique wheel design.  the expedition comes with running boards as standard equipment. Power retractable running boards that deploy when the doors are opened are optional. Some owners prefer no running boards, but that doesn't appear to be an option. interiorthe ford expedition features a rich blend of finishes, textures and color. Wood, chrome and leather make the expedition an inviting place to spend a day on the road. Leather-upholstered examples are available with a heating/cooling feature that makes them a more comfortable companion in winter and summer. Generous driver's-seat travel helps accommodate taller drivers, and it's a perfect match for the expedition's movable pedals, so a wide range of sizes of drivers can sit comfortably.  the second seating row reflects ford's thoughtful approach to passenger comfort: the standard 40/20/40 bench seat incorporates a center section that slides, bringing a child seat within easier reach of front-seat passengers. Optional second-row captain's chairs with a center-aisle pass-through can be substituted for adult-rated comfort.  packaging advantages afforded by the expedition's independent rear suspension enable the third-row seat to deliver more comfort for adults compared to the accommodations provided by the chevy tahoe. In fact, third-row room is among the best of any suv, though three adults won't want to sit in the back for long. The high ride height also makes getting in and out a task for children.  the liftgate with its flip-up glass hatch makes access to the cargo area very easy. The second- and third-row bench-type seats fold flat into the cargo floor, affording a long cargo area that can be easily loaded. In this regard, the expedition is much better designed than gm's large suvs. The expedition is also available with an optional power-folding third-row seat and electronically powered liftgate to make it even easier to load cargo. However, the seat cushions of the second- and third-row seats are a little slim in order to allow the seats to fold properly.  the expedition is about more than convenience. A dvd-based navigation system with sizable 6. 5-inch screen is available as an option. The rear-seat dvd entertainment system has an eight-inch screen that flips down from the headliner and also includes two sets of wireless headphones. A plug-in jack for an mp3 player is standard across the line. The expedition is even a nice place to be when all the entertainment is switched off, as the combination of thick glass and a generous amount of ac.
